Outdoor Research Office Interior
Necessity is the mother of invention, and invention's twin brother is Outdoor Research. This outdoor industry leader was founded because of an obvious need to solve potentially deadly problems faced by backcountry enthusiasts when their gear fails or isn't up to the challenge. Decades later, it's no wonder their corporate headquarters needed a facelift. Who has time to redecorate when you're saving lives?!
Dept of Energy was put in charge of transforming this typical office space into OR's home sweet home. Beginning in the entryway, a dropped, wood-beam truss gets the space feeling nice and cozy. We surrounded visitors with a color and material palette of earth tones, raw wood, and natural elements representative of the outdoors and juxtaposed them with raw and powder coated steel to tie in OR's technical side.
The trailhead way-finding signage points the way to the elevator which became the jewel of the project. Out with the baby blue, in with the mountain view! Outdoor Research branded doors glide open to reveal reclaimed wood slats and a slick panoramic shot of Mt. Triumph and the Cascade Range specifically commissioned for the space. The overhead "sky-light" bathes you with light from illuminated blue-sky graphic tiles so whatever the Seattle weather is like outside, this space will literally elevate your spirit. Now, who's going to have a case of the Mondays riding that to work?

The material and color treatments from the entryway were carried upstairs where a custom reception desk and waiting area greet those who choose to leave the serenity of the elevator. Detail elements were carried through the office hallways which lead to floor to ceiling outdoor environment graphics. Touring the office, you get a sense that the outdoors are never far away.
Being a neighbor of theirs up here in Seattle we've been witness to the product innovations that pour out of this place and we were happy to provide these folks with a well-deserved, brand-oriented office upgrade.
