For designers, re-branding and concepting your own stuff is perhaps the hardest endeavor of all. It’s kind of like sucking the chrome off a car bumper—there’re a few who can get ’er done, and then there’re the people who dance around the edges of it.

Keeping in mind Utility’s name and equity in the business, we wanted to convey a simplistic nature with a touch of sophistication and industrial elegance. The design had to be versatile enough to work on standard business papers, as well as lending itself to our fleet of trucks, tradeshow shipping crates (which usually mirror our business card), and an assortment of other unique pieces of collateral.

In our minds, a business card is more than your typical 2 by 3.5-inch rectangle. We implemented laser-etched bamboo laminated cross grain for structural integrity and a sophisticated feel. Hey, when you deal with as much wood as we do, why not?
